In addition to our Traditional Hearth Pads, American Panel Hearth Products offers an affordable, yet highly effective option—the Ember Defender. Unlike other Ember Defenders, we have reinforced our model’s safety by manufacturing it from heavy-duty 10 gauge steel. With this innovative design approach, American Panel’s Ember Defender prevents common issues that cheaper Hearth Pads experience, including bowing and curling. We also powder coat both sides of all our Ember Defenders to protect against rust and moisture distortion and to ensure a sleek, durable finish.

Ember options

Ember Defender Specifications

The Ember Defender is a Type 1 product, providing ember protection only. It is not suitable for stoves that require thermal protection. For Type 2 protection (both ember and thermal), your stove will need our Traditional Hearth Pad.

Key differences

between the Ember Defender and the Traditional Hearth Pad:

  • The front edge corners are rounded rather than a straight 45° angle
  • Simplistic design includes fewer shapes and sizes than Traditional Hearth Pads

Ember Defender Features:

  • Features a black powder coating with a slight texture applied to both sides
  • Available in black only
  • Available in sizes up to a maximum of 54” x 54”
  • The steel hearth pads have two small holes (approx. 5mm in diameter) along the back edge due to the manufacturing process.
  • Weight: 6 lbs per square foot.
